ROBIN SAGHIAN DISCUSSES HOPSKIPDRIVE ACCIDENTS IN LA
Clark County officials recently confirmed that HopSkipDrive—a ridesharing service like Uber and Lyft that is exclusively for children—will be coming to Las Vegas in January. So far, the rideshare platform currently operates in Los Angeles and 12 other cities in eight states.“It’s just another platform just like Uber, Lyft, Postmates, it’s just for kids,” said Attorney Robin Saghian to FOX5 News in Las Vegas.

In general, HopSkipDrive is one of the safest rideshare services available. Although many parents are worried about their children riding in vehicles with a stranger, all drivers must pass an extensive and rigorous 15-point certification process, which includes background checks, routine DMV checks, fingerprinting, and even face-to-face orientation with company staff.

Founded by three working moms who wanted to transport their own kids to and from school and extracurricular activities, HopSkipDrive enables busy parents to schedule rides for their children. Each ride costs $17 at the start and increases according to the time and distance of the destination.

Parents can track the location and speed of the ride. Additionally, company staff will also have the same access to such real-time information.

Over the past year, Attorney Saghian has handled a couple of car accident cases involving HopSkipDrive drivers. Fortunately, no children have been hurt in any of the cases.

“Somebody else will crash into Hop Skip Driver and they’ll injure the driver. We’ve never handled one with an injured child thank god,” he said.

All drivers must have auto insurance on all vehicles used to drive children through the app—with insurance limits equal to or greater than the state’s minimum requirements. When a driver is logged into the app and either transporting a child or on the way to pick up one, the company maintains a comprehensive auto insurance policy.

DURING A RIDE, A CHILD IS INSURED WITH THE FOLLOWING:

  • Third-party liability coverage – A maximum of $1 million in liability coverage that covers bodily injuries and property damage.
  • Auto physical damage coverage – HopSkipDrive’s insurance will go into effect to provide physical damage coverage for each vehicle a rideshare driver is at fault for, if he/she maintains his/her personal collision and comprehensive coverage. Before coverage applies, there is a $1,000 deductible.
  • Uninsured motorist coverage – If a driver and a rider are involved in an accident with an uninsured motorist, HopSkipDrive offers uninsured motorist coverage.
