Amtrak Derailment In West Los Angeles Avenue And Montair Drive

When traveling long-distance, the Amtrak is the go-to mode of transportation for commuters. The Amtrak is fairly cost-effective and efficient. And despite the occasional run-ins with suspicious strangers in the train, the Amtrak is relatively safe from catastrophic accidents.

Which is why the Amtrak derailment in Moorpark, California came as a shock to nearly 200 passengers who were Seattle-bound on Wednesday, June 28, 2023. The train accident happened at 11:15 a.m. near West Los Angeles Avenue and Montair Drive. According to several news reports, a water truck was stalled in the middle of the train tracks which then led to a collision.

The driver of the water truck along with several train passengers were transported to a hospital to get their injuries treated.

Thankfully, those affected only sustained minor injuries according to a news report by USA Today, but several passengers stated that the incident was traumatic.

“All of a sudden… things were flying around” passenger Debbie Welsford told ABC 7, “Everything was just flying around the room and we realized we hit something.”

While Amtrak accidents are rare, they do happen. And when it does, you may sustain catastrophic injuries (ie: traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries).

You need to be prepared when you find yourself in a precarious situation like this.

IF YOU ARE INVOLVED IN AN AMTRAK ACCIDENT OR ANY OTHER TRAIN ACCIDENTS, HERE ARE THE THINGS YOU NEED TO DO (IF YOU CAN):

SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION

The most important thing you need to do in the event of an accident is to seek medical attention. Even if it seems like you don’t have any injuries, medical providers are the best people to assess your wellness. A lot of accident victims refuse treatment because they think they aren’t injured. But some injuries aren’t visible and it’s entirely possible that you acquired Traumatic Brain Injury or Spinal Cord Injury, and symptoms often manifest well-after the accident occurred. So stay ahead of your treatment and make sure you seek medical attention as soon as you can!

TAKE PICTURES

If you are well enough, take pictures of everything including your injuries and your environment. These will be especially important when you take legal action against the grave injustice inflicted upon you!

KEEP ALL RECEIPTS AND DOCUMENT INVOLVING THE ACCIDENT

Such receipts and documents include:

  • Any pictures of the injury
  • Doctor’s notes
  • Medical bills
  • Chiropractor notes
  • Many more!

On that note, it is also extremely important to be as detailed as you can when relaying the severity of your injury to your medical providers. This will be of benefit to you and your lawyers for negotiating your settlement.
